Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:22
There was this man who owed his next-door neighbor a hundred dollars. The bill was due the next day but he only had $30. That night the man was so anxious about the next morning that his tossing and turning kept his wife awake. Finally, exasperated, she got out of bed, threw open the window, and yelled to the neighbor, "Hey, Ruben! About the hundred bucks-he ain't got it! Now," she said to her husband, "let him worry!" And they went to sleep.
Have you ever tossed and turned because you are worrying about some issue in life? Perhaps your child? Your husband? A job? A mistake you made? This worry keeps replaying itself in your head. You lose your train of thought, and become stressed out. Sound familiar? It is all to familiar to me!
Now when those thoughts creep into your mind, think on this psalm so you can relax and go to sleep. When God says to cast your burden upon Him and He will sustain you, He means every word of that promise. Remember, God is not capable of breaking His promises.
I have prayed more in the last 3 years than I've ever prayed. During this journey, God and I have become close. I've meekly prayed, I've prayed with anger, with tears, with a pitched voice, with petitions, with praise, and of course with thanksgiving. God has heard me each time and has sustained me. He will sustain you too. Not only that, he will work out the problem that's plaguing you, no matter what it is. God delights in being our God. Let's not rob Him of the joy He gets from shouldering our burden for us. He truly wants to help.
"Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake."
