I need your help!

Ok, so those of you who truly know me, know that I am NOT one to enjoy debating ANYTHING!! It is not in me and I hate doing it. It makes me nervous just thinking about it. But, as you know I have gone back to school. The course I am in right now is Ethics:Health Care and Social Responsibility. And of course, one of our first assignments is to debate over the topic of technology and prolonging life. So, this is where you all come in!!!! I have been assigned to debate FOR technology and prolonging life. If any of you have any great input or resources that I could get online I would really appreciate it. I need to get a rough outline and annotated bibliography created this week. This is proving to be even more difficult because, honestly, I have never really given this any thought (kind of embarrasing to admit that) I look forward to hearing your comments! Thank you in advance for helping with this! Love to all!!!

Carly,

Wow, what a tough assignment! I think I would have a really hard time with this issue. The only pro I can think of is that it's beneficial to YOUNGER people whose bodies can withstand the stress...Uzzie comes to mind, my "little brother" who had leukemia. When he got so sick and was on his death bed, they gave him a choice...either make him as comfortable as possible and let him die, or put him on a ventilator and put him in an induced coma, and hope that his body will be strong enough to tolerate the treatment and allow him to eventually breathe on his own again. He chose to try the respirator. The nurses told us that normally, this wouldn't be an ideal option, but because he was so young (14) that he had a really great chance of breathing on his own again--and he certainly did. Today, he no longer has leukemia, and he's perfectly healthy and doing great. Had it not been for technology (and of course, Jesus Christ), he wouldn't be alive today.
